Higher Education, University of Houston

Last week, I had the honor of visiting the University of Houston (UH) to speak to the entire Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services (including the student staff members). During my time, I met amazing professionals who were passionate about their work at the institution and who took time out of their day to make me feel like a member of their community! This week’s post will consist of a glimpse of my time at UH. Scroll down to view some pictures, social media posts, and the presentation abstract!

I’d like to thank both, Dan Maxwell and Dr. Richard Walker, for inviting me to campus and making me feel like a member of the UH community!

For institutions who are interested in the program that I conducted at the University of Houston, I’ve included the workshop abstract below for your review. Please feel free to contact me with specific questions about how this presentation can fit the needs of your institution or division!

Why YOU Matter: Building Leaders Who Cultivate Organizational Success!

(Organizational Empowerment Workshop)

It is vital for employees to understand their role in accomplishing organizational success. The choices one makes impacts the work they do as well as the overall success of a group. In higher education, we serve others by trying to create environments where our constituents have the best opportunity to succeed. Jamie Piperato (JP) will facilitate an interactive workshop for institutions of higher education that emphasizes the importance of individual contributions and the impact one may have on the overall success of an organization. JP will facilitate activities that require participants to reflect upon their strengths and weaknesses, motivation, and their role in promoting student success. By the end of this workshop, participants will understand why THEY matter at their institution and how success is an achievable goal TODAY! The core foundation that will drive this idea of mattering stems from the term “ubuntu,” which means “I am who I am because of who we all are.” Participants will leave this workshop with the understanding of interconnectedness and their responsibility to nurture five elements of organizational success: (1) leadership; (2) innovation; (3) execution; (4) accountability; and (5) culture.

Time allotted: 90 minutes

Thank You!

Once again, I’d like to thank the members of the UH community who made me feel at home on campus! Some of my favorite memories from my visit consisted of the moments where I was able to interact with students and staff one-on-one about their contribution and journey towards organizational success.
