I hope to explain why Jamie Piperato, LLC came to exist and my hopes and aspirations for it to continue its existence. If interested, please continue reading! For those who would much rather get to the services I provide, please continue to JP Speaks and JP Online. These are the two avenues that I provide direct services for faculty, staff, and students to increase their knowledge and awareness around topics of equity and inclusion, LGBTQ services, and leadership.

My Story

I am an educator. From day one, I can remember teaching my little sister how to write in script, ride her bike, and do math (a skill that I stopped excelling at very quickly). I remember the joy I felt when I saw the “aha” moment run across her face. During eleventh grade when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life I decided education was the route that seemed to make sense. So, I went to college to study 59401_1417229515543_1937655_nphysical education with the goal of one day becoming a physical education teacher. Once I got  involved at college, I started second guessing my career choice. I was passionate about so much more than just lifetime fitness (something I still value today). I knew I wanted to be an educator but I was not sure that K-12 was the right choice for me. It wasn’t until a good friend told me that there is more than one way to be an educator that I started thinking more creatively. It was such simple advice but it was the trigger that allowed me to step away from the pressures I was feeling and create a new plan.

My new plan consisted of changing my major in my senior year of college from physical education to kinesiology with a sports studies concentration. This switch allowed me to graduate on time without the need to student teach (something I did not want to do if I was not going into K-12 education). Then, I applied to graduate schools and started on the path to student affairs.

This is a similar glimpse down memory lane for most student affairs professionals. It is here though that my story starts to diverge from the familiar path. A unique opportunity revealed itself in my life shortly into my career. With some reflection and motivation I came to the realization that I wanted to open my own business surrounding professional development. I found that many folks I interacted with in higher education had varied experiences and knowledge around topics surrounding equity and inclusion, LGBTQ services, and leadership. With encouragement from Sarah, my partner, I began to piece together a plan for Jamie Piperato, LLC.

Mission of Jamie Piperato, LLC

My mission for the company is to provide professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and students on topics surrounding equity and inclusion, LGBTQ services, Piperato_Logo_bubble-2and leadership. I believe in order to be an exceptional leader one must be able to connect and be mindful of the different needs of all those around them. In addition, both faculty and staff must continue their education around topics that are directly impacting students so that they are keeping up with the fast changing trends occurring across higher education. My hope is that my business becomes a platform for professionals to discover resources that, ultimately, make their jobs easier!
